‘We Need to Rally for Each Other’ (Exclusive)
“I think everybody in the fitness, nutrition, health and wellness community, we have a real shared passion,” the actress tells PEOPLE
Kate Hudson knows the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The actress, 44, spoke exclusively with PEOPLE about her new partnership with MyFitnessPal, a health and fitness tracker, and how it is important to inspire others to live their best lives by eating right and taking care of their bodies.
Acknowledging how much is going on in people’s day-to-day lives right now, Hudson says, “I think people are realizing, when the world is on fire, we need to rally for each other, support each other, love each other and try to change how we do things and just connect.”
“And honestly,” she adds, “it starts in the home, and it starts with individual choices.”

For Hudson, questioning her goals improves her journey toward maintaining them — and she urges others to do the same.
“What makes you feel good? How do we get there?” she asks. “Why are we in a place right now where people are feeling so much anxiety and sadness, and how do we get people to get excited about making small steps for big wins?”
Of her shared interests with other like-minded individuals who focus on eating right, staying fit and taking care of their mental heath, Hudson says they all have a common goal.
“I think everybody in the fitness, nutrition, health and wellness community, we have a real shared passion,” she explains. “And when you create that support, you live it together, and you keep each other accountable. You cultivate those people in your life, but there’s a lot of people out there that don’t have that support.”

Helping others to find that support now is where her partnership with MyFitnessPal comes in, as Hudson and her trainer, Brian Nguyen, are working with the app to promote its new seven-day “Small Steps, Big Wins Plan” — which offers guidance on how to make minimal health changes that will add up to big results.
“To me, technology has become a great gift … and it’s through companies like MyFitnessPal, where you can find community, find support, get the science and have the information — no excuses. It’s right there,” Hudson says.
“When you have that support system, it’s going to make your day better, which inevitably makes your life better,” she continues, as Nguyen adds, “My quote for the month has been, ‘A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, a bird sings because it has a song,’ and I believe that my fellow Birdie and I here have a song.”
“With MyFitnessPal and the Small Steps, Big Wins Plan, what better way is there to create a community of birds?” the fitness lover — who has trained other celebrities including Mark Wahlberg and Patrick Schwarzenegger — asks. “Birds that want to sing the same song and want to help their fellow person.”
