A dietician has revealed the five things you should never do while trying to shed the pounds.

Courtney Kassis is a registered dietician who frequently shares her health tips to her TikTok channel where she boasts over 424,000 followers. 

Most recently, the expert, based in Pennsylvania, took to the video-sharing platform to give viewers some tips on how they speed up their weight loss journey.

She admitted that there were five common mistakes people make in an effort to lose excess pounds. 

In the now-viral video, which has so far amassed over 4,200 views, Courtney claimed that skipping out on social events, treating yourself as a ‘victim’ and weighing yourself daily can all act as roadblocks in your transformation.

She captioned the clip: ‘Which ones are stopping you from reaching your goals?! Let me know.’ 

‘Here are the five things I would never do on my weight loss journey as a registered dietician,’ she said at the beginning of the clip. 

Courtney then noted that she would ‘never skip out on social events.’ 

‘The first thing I would never do on my weight loss journey is skip social events. Skipping social events can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can actually increase the risk of chronic disease can weaken the immune system and even increase the risk of mortality. 

‘Throwing yourself into social situations will help you build the confidence you need to navigate the social scene,’ she explained. 

The next tip she had for those attempting to shed off weight, was to stop treating themselves like a ‘victim.’ 

The dietician said that you should try to ‘reframe your thoughts’ when you begin to feel sorry for yourself. 

‘I would focus on the fact that I get to nourish my body with wholesome and nutritious foods because nourishing your body is such a gift, not a punishment,’ she added.

In addition to not skipping out on social events and not embracing a victim mindset, Courtney noted that you shouldn’t ‘save’ your calories – meaning that you shouldn’t skip out on meals throughout the day and then binge at dinner time. 

She said: ‘I would never save my calories. I would never eat small meals or no meals in the beginning of the day to save my calories for later in the day. Actually, research backs that your biggest meal of the day should be at breakfast.’ 

The health pro noted that skipping your last meal is actually ‘more beneficial.’ 

Next, she suggested that people attempting to see the number on the scale go down should always have a plan – and stick to it.

She explained: ‘Random recipes lead to random results. Without a plan, it’s so easy to make impulse decisions that can actually derail your progress. 

‘I always strive to have meals and snacks planned ahead of time so I can stay on track consistently.’ 

Lastly, the content creator said that she would never step on a scale daily. 

‘Lots of dietitians may actually disagree with me on this one, but I actually advise against daily weigh-ins. 

‘I find that it creates unnecessary stress and obsession over numbers, and I choose to focus more on my energy, improving my mood, improving my labs… because these are true indicators of success,’ she said at the end of the video.
